After the death of their father, the Dashwood family finds themselves in a precarious financial situation. Mother and daughters are forced to leave their home and start over in much more modest circumstances. For older sisters Elinor and Marianne, a new period of life is also intertwined with love hopes, disappointments and the limitations of the society in which they live. The thoughtful Elinor carefully manages her emotions and follows reason, while the emotional Marianne gives herself to her heart without reservation. Their different views on love and life lead them through trials that require them both to rethink what it means to be discerning and sensitive.

The new adaptation of Jane Austen's novel also brings to the fore the strong bond between the sisters. Despite their differences, disappointments and life changes, they grow up together and learn from each other.
